Whenever I stroke "close window" on a windows app-only, like Calculator or translator, and then stroke close window on an explorer window S+ will not show the gesture and the tray button will freeze, not allowing me to click on anything, but the gestures still perform their tasks. I tried this extensively with different settings like "check cursor flags" and "send S+ to bottom", the same effect.

Okay after further testing it seems S+ randomly freezes even in other cases when “Always Activate Window Where Gesture Began” is turned on and I gesture "close window".

If you check 'Always Use Root Window', this may not happen again.

I did, enabling that option just freezes S+ much more often.

When it freezes, does it crash completely?

Like the tray icon disappears when you hover over it?

Is there anything in the Event Viewer detailing crash details?

What other symptoms can you describe to help me narrow down where/how this could be happening?

Is this Windows 10? Do you have any other shell utilities/anti-virus which could be intercepting S+ activity?

The tray icon doesn't disappear, the gesture drawing doesn't show, but the gestures work. When right/left clicking on the S+ tray icon it shows the working cursor and nothing happens, but the menu just stays there. Only way to remove is via task manager force stop.

It is Windows 10, I have AHK and Open Shell menu. Just the default Windows 10 anti virus installed.

Okay it happened again, but this time I didn't even have "Always activate..." on, it just happened randomly. S+ froze, gesture drawing didn't show, and the gestures didn't work until I paused and unpaused S+. Then the gestures worked, but no drawing, and the S+ tray button context menu froze like before.

Dear friend, maybe you can upload your S + export file to Rob, so that he can better find out the problem.
On my Win7, when S + freezes, the mouse will not work at all, and the mouse will not work again until you call up the task manager.
I don't know if our situation is exactly the same. But this is indeed a bug in S +.

It basically freezes now every 10 gestures.. I will definitely upload the export file if it's needed.

Download the trace version and run it until you get the freeze, then send me the log file.

https://forum.strokesplus.net/posts/t3012-Tracing-Logging-Builds-for-Troubleshooting

Select these trace option (on start or right-click tray icon > Set Trace Options...)

  • ApplicationMatchingEvents
  • CoreCaptureEvents
  • frmHintGeneralEvents
  • HookStateGeneralEvents
  • MouseHookGeneralEvents
  • ServerStateGeneralEvents
  • WinHookGeneralEvents

As soon as it freezes, kill S+ and send me the log file, rob at strokesplus dot net.

Hey Rob. I am having a similar issue that I think started two releases ago. My S+ freezes but my gestures do not continue to work as some have mentioned here. I can click on the icon in the tray and it will disable/endable but if I right-click to bring up the menu, it displays, and as soon as I move my mouse anywhere into the menu, I get an hourglass. I have to kill the task.

I did download and run the trace version but when I had it installed, I never had the error again. I've since uninstalled everything and reinstalled without any luck. I tried to reinstall the trace version but it's immediately deleted by my anti-virus. I have a dump file if that is of any use to you.

It seems like the recently added WMI fallback method for obtaining the EXE name was causing issues.

Try 0.3.8.6 and let me know if you're still having issues.

So far so good. It was crashing a lot before the update and I've been running smoothly for several hours now. Thanks!
